LADWP INVITES NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS TO ATTEND THE 2008 LINEMAN'S RODEO
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and I.B.E.W. Local 18 welcome the Neighborhood Councils to attend the 2008 Los Angeles Lineman's Rodeo on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the LADWP Power Distribution Training Center, 11760 Truesdale Street, Sun Valley, CA 91352, off Glenoaks Boulevard between Sheldon and Branford Streets
The Lineman's Rodeo is a competition where teams of journeyman and apprentice electrical distribution mechanics, from LADWP and other utilities, exhibit their skills and knowledge in events based on tasks that are routinely performed everyday in the course of their difficult work.
The events are a test of competitor strength, technique, agility, patience, mental and physical endurance, technical knowledge, safety skills and teamwork, qualities which enable these highly trained craftsmen to keep the power flowing to LADWP customers under all types of adverse conditions such as storms, heat waves, fires and earthquakes.
Among the events presented will be pole climbing competitions, hurtman rescues, cross-arm change outs, jumper installations and temporary service installations. The competition includes teams from Arizona, Nevada, Southern California Edison, San Diego and other surrounding cities.
As a specially invited attendee, you'll get to meet and talk to these dedicated professionals and see first-hand and up-close what it takes to succeed in this extremely demanding and hazardous profession. Plenty of great food, refreshments and children's activities as well as musical entertainment will be available. Bring your cameras!
