Neighborhood News and Information Alert

Proposed LA Groundwater Replenishment Project

"LADWP is preparing an Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Los Angeles Groundwater Replenishment Project in the San Fernando Valley.  The proposed project involves construction of an advanced water purification facility to perform advanced treatment of recycled wastewater from the Donald C. Tillman Water Reclamation Plant. The purified water would be used for groundwater replenishment.

Replenishment would be accomplished by spreading the purified recycled water at the Hansen and Pacoima spreading grounds, and by delivering purified recycled water into new injection wells to increase groundwater recharge in the San Fernando Groundwater Basin.

We are requesting input from individuals, stakeholders, organizations, and agency representatives that may be interested in the proposed project as to the scope and content of the environmental information to be included in the project EIR. The 45-day public comment period for the Initial Study starts Sept. 6, and concludes on Oct. 21. Three public scoping meetings will be held on: Wednesday Sept. 25 (Sepulveda Garden Center near Encino), Thursday Oct. 3 (Canterbury Elementary School in Arleta), and Saturday Oct 12 (LADWP Headquarters, Downtown L.A.).  For more information:

Significant stakeholder input was obtained during the development of the GWR project, as part of the Recycled Water Master Planning process.  Outreach activities led by the City have included: presenting to and receiving feedback from the Recycled Water Advisory Group (RWAG); briefings for City Council and other elected officials; briefings with key stakeholders; presentations to neighborhood councils, community organizations, non-government organizations, business groups, and K-12 schools; conducting Recycled Water Forums through the City; and distributing regular updates through our stakeholder database.

For additional information on our outreach efforts, the input received from the RWAG and the community at large during the planning of the GWR project, and general information about the recycled water program, please click here:"
